Romance Writers Weekly ~ What’s in a Name

A.S. Fenichel / Andie Fenichel Posted on June 30, 2020 by A.S. FenichelJune 30, 2020

This week’s topic came from me, A.S. Fenichel. I asked the group, how do you choose your character’s names? Do you have a system, a book, an app or is it random? I have a couple of methods for character naming. Usually, for my main characters, I try to find a name that not only sounds right, but also has the appropriate meaning. I have a baby naming book and I use baby naming websites for this. The baby naming sites are also great for characters who are from cultures whose names I’m less familar with. I recently had a … Continue reading →

Romance Writers Weekly ~ What’s Your Trope?

A.S. Fenichel / Andie Fenichel Posted on June 23, 2020 by A.S. FenichelJune 23, 2020

This week Brenda Margriet asked – What’s your favourite romance trope to read and/or write? Friends to Lovers? Marriage of convenience? Second chances? I love a good enemies to lovers? I also love forced proximity. I use the first in The Earl Not Taken and the second in Misleading A Duke. I love to read second chance tropes. There’s nothing quite like love the second time around. As a widow myself, I sometimes read and write about widows. I like the idea of finding love a second time, which I did. Sometimes, like in my Wallflowers of West Lane series, … Continue reading →

Romance Writers Weekly ~ Stress!

A.S. Fenichel / Andie Fenichel Posted on June 16, 2020 by A.S. FenichelJune 16, 2020

This week with all that’s going on Leslie Hachtel asked, when you’re feeling down, what do you do to feel better? Normally, when I’m down, I like to go shopping. Right now, I’m mostly limited to shopping on-line and that’s just not the same as rummaging through the fun stuff at TJ Maxx. I read a lot. Writing is a HUGE stress releaver too. The best way to relieve stress for me is to keep a planner full of how I feel, how I sleep, what I’m eating, did I work out? I think all of these things contribute to … Continue reading →

Romance Writers Weekly ~ Who Inspired YOU?

A.S. Fenichel / Andie Fenichel Posted on June 9, 2020 by A.S. FenichelJune 9, 2020

I took a week off, but now I’m back for more RWW hopping! This week I asked the group… What inspires you? Do you or did you have a mentor, parent or friend who you credit with making you the person you are today? It doesn’t have to be a person: music, art…. When I was young, I was in spired by the theatre. I loved the stage and all the people on it. I loved Broadway. I had an 8th grade teacher who took a bunch of us to several shows and my mom took me and my siblings … Continue reading →

Romance Writers Weekly ~ Writing is Hard…

A.S. Fenichel / Andie Fenichel Posted on May 26, 2020 by A.S. FenichelMay 26, 2020

This week Clair Brett asked, What do you find most difficult about writing what you write? It could have to do with certain scenes, plotting, dialogue, whatever trips you up. How do you approach those things? The short answer is SEX! I find sex scenes torturously hard to write.  I overcome the issue by slogging through and after the book is finished I go back and fix them. However, even the fixing is very tough. Why is it so difficult? Because it’s intimate and personal to the characters and that can be hard to share in a way that brings … Continue reading →
