This week’s topic comes from the wonderful Clair Brett – What are your hobbies, or what is a hobby you would like to start, why do these interest you, and how does it make you happy?

I used to have lots of hobbies, crafts and art projets, but as I got older my hobbies changed.

I have a dozen or so house plants that I love to see grow and florish. There’s something very satifying in taking a tiny sprig and turning it into a beautiful plant that needs a bigger pot. I also love taking those smaller pots and planting clippings to give to friends.

I also love to garden outside, though I’m not a fan of weeding, as my husband will attest. I love to see my landscaping take form. We just built a new home last year so it’s been a bit daunting to put a full landscape in for the first time in my life.

I read, of course. Books are the perfect way to get away especially now when going anywhere is terrifying.

I’m learning to play the piano. I had lessons when I was a little girl, but then I had a mean teacher who put me off of the notion for 35 years. 🙁 I learned clarinet and guitar in school, but never got very good at either. I’m determined to be good enough to entertain myself with the piano. It might be harder to learn new things as an adult, but I enjoy the process. As an unexpected bonus, the lessons are rather Zen and I find it very relaxing.
