Romance Writers Weekly ~ Writing Bliss
It was my turn to choose the topic. I asked my fellow authors, What’s your favorite thing about being a writer and why?
Well, it’s not the fame and fortune. LOL Though that would be alright too. The best part about being a writer is the writing. I know that sounds simple and maybe not very enlightening, but it’s the truth.
Here’s what you may not know. A good portion of most writers’ days are spent in career pursuits that do not include writing. That’s right…Most of us have to carve out the time for the actual writing. You would think it would be number one on the to-do list, but it’s like number 72.
So what are we doing if we’re not writing? Funny you should ask… We’re editing the last book, plotting the next book, writing blogs, posting on social media, working with a web designer, working with a cover artist, promoting the last book. promoting a sale on an older book. taking an interview, filming a video… The list goes on and on.
For me, the writing is a pleasure. I’m not saying it’s all wine and roses. Sometimes it hard to hear the characters and know what will happen next. Sometimes I’m trying to squeeze a thousand words in before my eyes close after a long day of doing all that other stuff I mentioned. Don’t be fooled, that thousand words was fun to write. I love it! I love the way a story unfolds in my head like a special secret gift and I’m luck enough to get to share that gift with the world.
Then there are those magical moments when the house is quiet, I get out my laptop and sit on the porch. The weather is cool and dry. I know there are hours before anyone will interrupt me. The characters are Chatty Kathy in my head. BLISS!
The next thing I know, three hours have gong by and every muscle in my body aches from inactivity, but heavens, I just wrote the best freakin’ scene of the book. Did I mention BLISS?
And that is the best part about being a writer…
Hop back if you missed Caro Kinkead
Great post! I chucked at how actual writing is like #72 on your list…
