Romance Writers Weekly ~ Inspiration
Welcome back! This week, My friend Clair Brett want’s to know: Where do you find inspirations for your book ideas?
Loaded question alert!
The honest answer is…. Everywhere and Nowhere!
Not very satisfying, though. Let me be more specific. I’ve had story ideas come from dreams, overhead conversations, a random comment from a friend, and so many more moments in my life.
My first published book, Mayan Afterglow was inspired by a dream and a “call” for submissions by a publisher. The publisher wanted stories about the End of Days. The dream was about a court jester stealing jewels from the castle. Somehow, that made sense together. My jester became a thief robbing abandoned houses after the end of the world as we know it.
Ascension came to me as a flash of a properly dressed lady, sneaking through her garden gate at night, and a man waiting for her. It was just a snapshot. She was disheveled and a bit muddy. Complaining about a torn glove, she was surprised by the presence of a man in the garden. That is the first scene in Ascension and from that scene, I surmised that my lady was fighting demons during the night. I found that the man was her betrothed, just back from the war in France, with no idea his childhood sweetheart had become a demon hunter.
Christmas Lane was the combination of wanting to write a Christmas story and being thoroughly into the Summer baseball season. A friend and I were talking about the couple meeting at a game, and both of us had a hotdog collision idea at the exact same time. So, it had to happen.
As you can see, no two books make their entrance into my subconscious the same way. It’s a lovely process, and I wouldn’t change a thing. As long as the stories keep on coming, I’m happy however they get into my brain.
Hop back if you missed Leslie Hachtel.
Keep on hopping for inspiration from Jenna Da Sie.
Have you read…
