Romance Writer’s Weekly ~ How It Began
Welcome back to the hop. This week we’re asking all the authors, how’d you get started in your career? How’d you get to where you are today? What’s next for you?
To be totally honest, I was always a storyteller. I’d make up elaborate stories long before I could write. However, I wasn’t a big reader until I hit my twenties. I thought I wasn’t smart enough to write anything. I struggled all through school with spelling and believed that made me too stupid to be a writer. It hurts even today to hear those thoughts. I had so many well-meaning teachers try to teach me to spell, but none of them succeeded. The more who tried, the worse I felt.
The fact was, I was never stupid at all. I still struggle with spelling, and it’s not the end of the world. Why my brain wants words to be phonetic, I’ll never know, but it does. I’m very lucky that in this day and age, we have the technology to help with those minor details. Also, a fabulous editor or two always helps.
In my twenties, I realized I was letting my limitations limit my dreams. That wouldn’t do. So, I started writing. I took classes. I became a better writer. I pushed aside the fear of being seen as not smart enough. Spelling continues to be a struggle, but not an obstacle. I’m a storyteller and that’s a gift worth sharing.
I wrote and submitted, was rejected often, grew a thick skin, and tried again. After many years, I had a book excepted by a publisher. I published ten books with that first publisher. After a few years, I moved on to another publisher and worked on thirteen books with them. Now, I self-publish under two pen names and life is pretty fabulous.
In the future, I think I’d like to work as a hybrid author and write some books to self-publish and others that go through a publisher. I’m not that concerned about the future as I’m blessed with a mind full of stories waiting to be written. It’s a beautiful thing.
I have a book coming out this week under my pen name Andie Fenichel. The book is a contemporary novella called Hero’s Lane. It’s in a series dedicated to wounded heroes, Heart of a Wounded Hero.
The following week I’ve got two books arriving.
A.S. Fenichel is in an Historical Romance Anthology. Sixteen books for just .99 cents. All fabulous stories are set in times past. Be sure to grab Secrets, Scandals, and Seduction on June 7.
But if you want a free copy, I’ve got 15 Barnes and Noble copies. You just need the free B&N app to read. Here’s the link to request a free Barne’s and Noble copy. You will need to download it by June 12, but I’ll send it on June 7th, so you’ll have plenty of time.
One day earlier you can read Andie Fenichel’s second book in June, Heavy Petting. If you love books with dogs, you will love this book and the Love and Frist Bark series.
I’m exhausted. LOL How about you?
Now keep on hopping to P.G. Forte’s blog and see what got her started.
