Romance Writers Weekly ~ The Lightbulb Moment
I’m so glad you’re back for more hopping with the fabulous authors from Romance Writers Weekly. This week Lyra Parish asked, when did you realize you would be a writer? Is it something you always knew or did it come about some other way?
Here’s my story: I was not a big reader as a child. I read all the classics that were thrust on me, but until my twenties, I didn’t read voraciously. Then my husband started working a night shift and I was super lonely and board at night. My friends from work brought me books to read and I started reading them. As a crazed Star Trek fan, when my friend Sabreen gave me a stack of Star Trek The Next Generation, I dove in with gusto. I read all she gave an and then started buying up all the one’s I could find in the book store. (This is before eReaders)
I was reading on break at work one day and there was a strange plot twist. I can’t quite remember what it was exactly only that in involved Data. I thought, I could write that better than this. That was it! My moment. I wrote a short Sci Fi story after that. I got a word processor and wrote every day until I managed a full novel. I was probably in my mid twenties when I knew for sure I would continue to pursue writing as a career. It would be seventeen years before I had my first book published. 🙂
Do you have a story of a “ah ha” moment? I’d love to hear it.
Keep on hopping to find out what made Leslie Hachtel into an author. Or you can hop back and find out why Jenna Da Sie is pursuing her dreams.

What a great story, Andrea! Love your perseverance – it makes me feel better to know others took a long time to be published. 🙂
Wow! That is amazing that you kept with it for 17 years, and still going! I agree with Brenda, it’s nice to know some authors that took a while instead of ‘oh I wrote a book in a couple of months and now it’s published’. Can’t wait to read more of your books!
