This week was a struggle to decide if I wanted to participate. LOL Leslie Hachtel asked us to “Tell us about your first kiss.”

I thought about making something up since my first kiss is NOT a good story. But, maybe some of you had a first kiss that was meh at best and can relate. Here we go…

I was twelve or maybe thirteen and attending my cousin’s Bar Mitzvah. For those of you who don’t know about this Jewish tradition, let me give you a little insight. A Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a coming of age party for a Jewish boy or girl who reaches the age of thirteen and who has attended about 6 years of Hebrew school. You have to learn to read Hebrew so that you can read from the Torah (Old Testament Bible) in front of everyone you know. It’s horrifying, at least it was for me. However, after the formality is over there’s a big party. Essentially it’s like a wedding reception but for preteen and teenaged kids. I’m sure the parents have fun too, but really a Bar Mitzvah is a big, fancy kids party.

When I was at this awkward age, we lived in New Jersey and traveled back to Long Island for my cousin’s Bar Mitzvah. My cousin James did an admirable job on his Torah reading and off we went to the party. You can imagine that since my cousin is male there were a lot of boys at the party and all at the same age. I think his name may have been George, but it’s a vague thought. He was cute, dark hair and eyes, nice skin. (That’s a big deal at thirteen) We danced and ran around the reception before finding a quiet spot at the top of a some stares. I think it may have been a bridal room.  You know, where the bride and groom stay before they make their big debut. Anyway, George kissed me. It was not great. LOL It was wet and brief and three or four boys were giggling in the stairwell. Not romantic! But what is at thirteen?
