Romance Writer’s Weekly ~ A Walk Down Memory Lane
We took a week off to recover from Memorial weekend, but we’re back!
This week Leslie Hachtel asks, What memories of summer make you feel good all year ’round?
Did you hop over from Kathryn Renard’s blog? No? You better hop back, but first…
I have some wonderful memories of growing up with a swimming pool in the backyard. One year my father bought a giant water-slid and since it was late summer, he decided to say it was my birthday present. By the time it was up and running that night, I was long in bed, but he wouldn’t let anyone go down the slide before me. So at some very late hour, he came and woke me up. We put my bathing suit on and down the slide I went. I was terrified at first, but after that first slide, it was awesome. And it’s still one of the fondest memories of my father.
These days summers are not quite as exciting. Though, I do love the warm weather. Actually in Texas its downright HOT. But this year we’ve had a rainy humid spring and I imagine Summer will be a scorcher. I still prefer it to winter. 😉
One of my favorite things about summer is BASEBALL. I’m a pretty big sports fan. Not crazy or anything. I’m not leaving a good party to go watch a sporting event on TV, but I enjoy Hockey, Football and Baseball as well as Nascar, horseracing, golf and maybe a few others. For me it’s really about the players and their stories. I love to root for someone who’s come through Hell to get to the top of their field or just someone who has a passion that you can really see in his/her eyes. When I watch baseball, I see almost 180 years of American History unfolding and continuing. It’s not just MLB either. I love little league. My favorite week of the summer is the Little League World Series. We even catch college softball from time to time. Not being athletic, I’m in awe of how far the human spirit can push itself physically. And it’s all for the love of the game.
Have a great SUMMER!

What a great memory of your dad! Love that he could bend the rules and wake you up for such a good reason.
I love that memory of the slide and your dad. When my kids were little, we loved surprising them like that. Happy times!
