Welcome back and I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend. I love it when the 4th ends up on a Monday or Friday. It’s so nice to have the long weekend.
This week was my turn to ask – If you live in the U.S., How did you spend yesterday? Tell us about your Independence day weekend. Now make up a really short story about how you wish you’d spent it. Can be as long or as short as you want, but make us wish we’d been there too. Oh and if you live outside the U.S., you can join the fiction part. If you were visiting during the 4th of July holiday, how do you imagine the day? GET CREATIVE!

Going out of order. We had plans for the holiday and it would have been my first choice and then I’ll tell you what I really did.
–
So my weekend didn’t turn out as planned. I was supposed to go to Southwest Texas and spend the week with my husband and our friends. There was a big party on Sunday and lot’s of drinking and eating. It would have been a lot of fun. My husband had to go because he was committed to being an instructor at a kids fishing camp this week, but I was just going for fun.
–
I didn’t go because my dearest friend was losing her husband to cancer and I didn’t feel like I could leave her. As these things usually go, our friend lost his battle last night. It was truly sad, and will mar the 4th of July in years to come. It was also a blessing that he no longer suffers. I’m so proud of his family for how bravely they cared for him and each other throughout the weeks prior.
–
I’m sorry I don’t have a more cheerful post for you this week. Keep your family close. Hold them in your heart. Enjoy safe and happy holidays together for as long as you can.

Family by the dozens lined the grassy back yard watching the display. How would she face them? He always handled these things. She would fuck the entire thing up. Well, it had to be done.

Trudging up the dock walkway, stopped at the very end. “Thank you all for coming.”

Her sister, Mary approached. “You don’t have to do this today, Beth. Let it go for a few days.”
–
“This is what he wanted.” Her heart was literally breaking in two. The pain was crushing.
–
Mary handed her the urn. “Well, then lets get on with it.”
–
Beth took the wooden box that held Jeremy’s ashes and hugged it to her chest. “Get the boats and let’s do this.”
