From me again this week – Tomorrow is my birthday. I know, things got terrible on this day in 2001. Where were you that day? What do you remember? What stood out to you? What was your “silver lining” takeaway?

I was just getting into work. It was my birthday and I was feeling pretty good. Just as I walked in the first plane struck. Soon after the second and before we knew it my husband was calling to tell me they were both gone.

I’ll never forget the television coverage that night. I wish I could unsee much of what they showed. Horrifying. Being from New Jersey just 50 miles from NYC, there are very few people I know who were not personally affected by that day. People who lost cousins, uncles, brothers, mothers and on and on. It was and is a terrible day.

The only silver lining is that no one ever forgets my birthday anymore. It’s not much, but it’s something.
