BUT first!
This week it’s a Flash Fiction Challenge: Your character just washed up on the shore of a deserted tropical island. How did they get there? What happens next?
Gone…
.
The ship, his brothers and the gold all gone. Everything Sam had worked for vanished in a moment on the sea. The fire must have started in the hold. The captain mentioned he’d taken on black powder to bring to the colonies. He’d boasted about the fine price the crown had paid for his services.
.
The explosion had flung Sam from the deck and into the cold sea. He’d tried to reach the screams of the other’s but it was so dark and there was so much debris. When the ocean turned silent, he’d grabbed a plank of wood and wept while waiting to die.
.
The bump of his makeshift raft on sand had woken him. Sitting on the tropical shore, he watched the sun crest the horizon as if nothing had changed. But Sam’s world was no longer. He prayed for death, but instead his stomach growled. If he wasn’t going to die, he’d need to find food and fresh water.
.
He dragged himself from the beach and walked toward the lush jungle to the west. The underbrush clutched at his legs, but he pushed through. The crash of waves grew distant and a new sound tinkled ahead. Could he have crossed the entire island in such a short time? He prayed not as he forged on toward rushing water.
.
Sam’s hope for death was dashed as a clearing revealed a bubbling pool complete with waterfall. “I could just drown myself and be done.”
.
Even so, he knelt by the edge and cupped a handful of water easing the pain of his parched lips and mouth before sitting back against a tree.
.
laughter and splashing broke the silence. Cautious that he might have lost his mind, Sam crept along the edge of the pool pushing aside the lush vegetation. Two women bathed at the far edge. They had long black hair and caramel skin. They spoke but he could not understand the words.
.
Maybe he was already dead.
.
He stepped and the bramble under his feet snapped.
.
They turned wide brown eyes toward him. Unashamed of their nudity, they watched him. The woman on the right recovered from her shock and scanned him from head to toe. She said something to the other, who ran to the shore, wrapped a cloth around herself and rushed away through the jungle.
.
The one who stayed also left the pool and wrapped herself before easing toward him. “You are English?” Her accent was thick and exotic, but her words were clear.
.
“I am Sam Wentworth from England. My ship went down at sea.” His voice was ragged and tight with emotion.
.
Her eyes filled with sorrow. She reached a hand out toward him. “Come. You are safe now.”
That’s it for me today, but keep on hopping and find out what happens to
Jenna Da Sie’s castaway.
Alaskan Exposure is back on the book shelves. This book is my only full length contemporary. Very sexy and a lot of fun. It’s a cruise ship romance and a fun read.
I was inspired by my own Alaskan cruise, though there was no sexy affair for me other than that with my husband. 😉 However, there was an adorable first officer who inspired the book when he gave us a tour of the bridge.
This book is a Kindle Unlimited so if you subscribe you can read it free. However, as it’s has a great price of just $2.99 for everyone. I hope you love it. I enjoyed the process of rereading it for its second life.
Alaskan Exposure was originally published in 2013.
Desperate Bride will be out in September, so preorder now!
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you’ll leave me a note about whatever you’d like to chat about here on my blog. I’d love to hear from you.
Great story! I want to know what happens next and where Sam is going with this mysterious woman.
